Free Radicals are Dangerous

Free radicals are the worst enemy of our skin. These skin damaging free radicals are produced by the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun, pollution and smoking. A recent research made by the Missouri University revealed the shocking fact that some sunscreens can also produce free radicals. Zinc oxide is a very common and the most effective ingredient in sunscreens, but it can also generate free radicals when exposed to sun’s ultraviolet rays. However according to dermatologists, zinc oxide is also probably the most effective agent of blocking the damaging UV rays and the probability of production of free radicals by zinc oxide is very low and in good sunscreen it is almost non-existent. Moreover the use of any good anti oxidant which contains vitamin c, resveratrol and catechin provides the perfect shield from free radicals. If you want to save time, buy some good sunscreen which already has antioxidants and have fun in the sun.

Always Apply Two Coats

Most people don’t apply proper amount of sunscreen required to provide complete protection from the damaging rays of the sun. According to scientists, apply at least 2 tablespoons for body and one for the face. Always try two coats of sunscreen on your skin to ensure the proper protection. About one ounce of sunscreen is required for one coat, and don’t forget to apply second coat after that on the areas that are not covered. Even the People who think they apply right amount of sunscreen are often doing it wrong. Most of the times, either they are not applying enough of the sunscreen or they are not covering all areas evenly. For best results, try to apply from right side of the body and apply on chest, legs and arms evenly. Then try to apply on the left side of the body and cover all areas completely. Repeat this process for the second time and then you’re ready to enjoy in the sun.

Never Use Expired Sunscreen

Never ever use an expired sunscreen as it will not provide the required SPF protection for your skin. Like medicines and food products, sunscreens shouldn’t be used after the expiry date. Mostly, the expiry date of a sunscreen is one or two years after manufacturing. According to dermatologists, the sunscreens are mostly expired long before that date because of the careless use of the tubes. Sunscreen tubes must be kept in shade when you’re out at beach or pool. According to dermatologists, don’t stash sunscreen tube in your car or keep it in the sun, as the process of degradation will speed up. If you apply the right amount of sunscreen regularly, there is no way it will last for more than a few weeks at most. So a sunscreen tube is not good if it is there for longer than a year.
