15 Best And Effective Homemade Hair Masks

Today the kind of environment that prevails all around is NOT one that promotes good hair. We have UVA and UVB rays to damage our skin and hair. We have pollutants in the air that wreck our hair and scalp. We have dry air, in some areas, which sucks up moisture from hair that is already dry. We have humid air, in some areas, which tends to make our hair frizzy, greasy and sticky. The food we eat is full of preservatives. The hair products that we use are laden with chemicals. We use high temperatures of heat to achieve the hairdos we want. The hair of today’s women bears all the tortures it possibly can and if it still shows up the other day then, sure as hell, it deserves some good pampering.

Homemade Mask-01

To pamper our hair and give it the extra nourishment it needs we should apply hair masks to it once every week or at least on alternate weeks. Let us start with the simplest DIY hair masks to make and apply first.

15. Simple And Plain Whipped Yogurt

Simple and Plain Whipped YogurtThis is my all-time favourite go-to DIY mask for all seasons. It works perfect for my kind of hair. I have hair that is wavy and gets frizzy most of the time. It is also dry when I do not give it the care and nourishment it needs. With yogurt, my thirsty hair gets pretty much all that it needs; HYDRATION, MOISTURE, CARE and NOURISHMENT, therefore resulting in shiny, sleek and frizz-free hair. This hair mask does not require you to collect too many ingredients. Simply take a cup or half of yogurt (depending on your hair length) and whip it up. Apply the whipped yogurt thoroughly to your hair, including the ends of your hair. Wrap them in a shower cap and steam them using warm towel wraps. Try this amazing homemade hair mask at least once in a wee and see the amazing results.

14. Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise..Mayonnaise – another go-to DIY hair mask for hair that is soft and manageable. Yogurt and mayonnaise are my personal favourites. WHY? These two are so simple to make that it literally takes no time. Mayo hair mask, I think, is the simplest for it does not even need any whipping done. However, the steaming part is a bit of a hard work, but that is where all the benefits of mayo lie.

Instructions

  1. Put a pot full of water to boil on the stove.
  2. Take a few dollops of mayo in a bowl and apply it evenly throughout your hair. Take more mayo whenever needed.
  3. Cover your hair with a shower cap (or a polythene shopping bag).
  4. Let it sit on your hair for 15 – 20 minutes.
  5. Remove the water pot you kept on stove. It should be hot by now. Now take a big towel and dip a section of it into the water. Strain out any excess water. Handle the towel from the area that is dry and cooler.
  6. Cover your head with the area that is wet and hot.
  7. Repeat the process several times before you discard the boiling water.

Tip

As I mentioned earlier, steaming is the part where all the benefits of mayo hair mask lie. When you steam your hair, it helps the mayo penetrate deeper into the hair. You may steam your hair even with the other hair masks, since it doubles the benefit.
